Women, health, and hormones
This is stemming from an Instagram post I saw.
It was encouraging women to recognize possible pitfalls and possibilities after 40 years of age.
It led me to share the post and ask others their thoughts.
I got a great response from Stacy Wig, CEO and owner of Fitzone
” First of all, most women in the 40-48 range GENERALLY feel pretty good IF THEY HAVE A CONSISTENT WORKOUT ROUTINE AND CLEAN EATING STRATEGY and can train like they did in their 30s. Once late 40s to early 50s hit for MOSt, this is when the hormones begin to shift more dramatically as menopause lurks ahead. This is the critical time to:
-Consider hormone replacement strategies (this is not for everyone, but for many women, low dose hormone replacement can make a dramatic difference in their wellness
- Implement a diet lower in carbs, higher in healthy fats, and loaded with protein (typically a 35% protein and fat and 30% carb ratio)
-Add joint supplements (love Animal Pack Joint powder!!), fish oil and D3 if not already taking, berberine (metabolic function and overall well-being), and CoQ10 (anti-oxidant) as well as NAD (a coenzyme which plays a key role in numerous cellular functions)
-Change the percentage of time you work on mobility and flexibility within workout time (should go from 10% to about 25%)
-Don’t buy into the …you are older so be kind to yourself bs…most people are way to “kind” to themselves which is why they don’t get stronger, leaner, faster, more agile, or more confident”. All I mean here is that we need to consistently work outside of our comfort zone. Self care and self love is important but as we age we tend to stay in our comfort zone so much more than in our youth and that, my friends, will age the hell out of you.”
As always, great tips from Ms. Stacy Wig
